The teen and pre-teen years are some of the best of a person's life. They can also be some of the most challenging. Teens are in a developmental period where distancing from the wisdom of parents is natural, but also scary. When that distance becomes more of a wedge, that's where I can help. Adolescents don't always have the ability to make good decisions for themselves AND they don't like others making those decisions for them. Therapy can be a place of connection and guidance that both children and their families are looking for. My therapeutic approach is grounded in the importance of attachments and the ability to accurately express thoughts and feelings. This allows our loved ones to support us in a meaningful way. I believe it's important to understand the motivation and intention BEHIND the behaviors. This is where real change can happen. Kids face so many challenges growing up in today's society. It's no wonder young people are struggling to make healthy choices for themselves. Therapy can help teens navigate this difficult landscape. This is my focus in the therapeutic relationship. I work with lots of kids in the teen/pre-teen developmental period to choose a path with greater confidence.
