I assist people who are experiencing personal and relationship problems, those who are chronic worriers, withdraw and avoid too much or are excessively sad and depressed. I also counsel those whose lives are shattered by severe trauma, loss, marital conflict, divorce, aging, and delusional thinking/psychosis. I apply theory, methods, and approaches that work best with the unique needs and personality of the person, couple, or family I'm counseling. I understand several counseling theories and methods and I appreciate that many counseling approaches have value. Behavior therapy is best to treat discrete symptoms, whereas I gravitate toward cognitive therapy/mindfulness for interpersonal problems. Existential psychotherapy takes one to deep personal exploration of self and others, etc. I've earned degrees, licenses, and assumed leadership in private industry, as well as in public service settings. Yet, my heart is with those I've counseled. People need to share life's turmoil and find a safe space when seeking "a better way." My job is to aid toward achieving greater self-awareness, deeper self-regard and rewarding relationships.
