Normal life events can be stressful when they exceed your ability to cope. Losses like the death of a loved one, separation/divorce, relocation or retirement, or an "empty nest" may threaten your emotional and physical health. Even positive events like marriage or the birth of a child require substantial adjustment. While small amounts of stress can be a positive motivator, prolonged exposure to stress may lead to anxiety, depression, and physical health problems. If you are feeling overwhelmed or unsure of how to cope with the demands placed on you, it is probably time to see a therapist. In addition to individual therapy, I frequently work with couples on relationship issues. When one or both partners are under stress it affects their interaction. They may need help staying calm and focused, identifying their individual needs, recognizing inappropriate behavior patterns, and communicating clearly with each other. From the many individuals and couples I have worked with over the years, I have learned that people are unique, but their problems are not. Using a solution-focused approach, my goal is to provide a supportive environment and assist you in reaching YOUR goals."
