I strive to understand you in the context of your life history and relationships. I think often when people are struggling they feel disconnected from others in painful ways, and perhaps from parts of themselves. Having a safe space to talk about concerns can often help us find a way forward that might not have been evident before. I think counseling should provide the freedom to talk about what you need to talk to (at the pace that is right for you) and should help you find your way to the solutions that are right for you. The process often involves a mix of increasing self-awareness and compassion, and building or strengthening skills. I bring considerable life experience to my work. I believe in the healing power of connections, and that the foundation of any useful counseling experience, is first establishing a trusting relationship. I draw from several approaches including psychodynamic, cognitive-behavioral, and acceptance-commitment therapies.
