Licensed in DC, Maryland, and Virginia - Hello and welcome! My name is Markisha (she/her) and I’m a woman of color who specializes in trauma-informed therapy. Deciding to participate in counseling can be intimidating at first. My goal is to provide culturally sensitive, trauma-informed, and evidence-based counseling to assist individuals in processing and working through life stressors. I assist adults to walk through their life journey and improve their overall mental and emotional well-being. We work to target a decrease in symptoms associated with personal and childhood sensitivities, work issues, and relationship difficulties. I specialize in trauma, PTSD, anxiety, depression, and ADHD. I utilize an integrative approach, utilizing several techniques stemming from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Person-Centered Therapy, Somatic Therapy, and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing Therapy (EMDR). Healing is difficult, but you don't have to do it alone. I value building strong therapeutic relationships with clients before diving into treatment. My therapy space has been described as a warm, compassionate, and non-judgmental. I strive to listen to clients' needs and collaboratively create a treatment plan. I hope that while healing takes time, therapy makes the process a bit easier and more supported.
