About

As a psychodynamically oriented therapist with forty years of experience treating individuals, couples, and families, I have a passion for my work and a capacity to engage well even with difficult and challenging clients. In addition to people experiencing anxiety, depression and other problems associated with daily living, I have expertise working with individuals and families struggling with PTSD, dissociative disorders, bipolar disorders, and dual diagnoses of substance abuse and mental health problems. I especially enjoy helping adolescents and young adults experiencing identity issues and challenging life transitions.

I believe that individual psychotherapy can help clients more fully understand themselves, which in turn makes change more possible. I connect with my clients as empathically as possible, as I believe that the quality of the therapeutic relationship is very important in psychotherapy. When working with couples and families, I use a family systems approach.

As a culturally sensitive clinical social worker, I have taught myself Spanish and have developed a deep respect for Latino cultures, in particular, though I continue to educate myself about a variety of cultures and how they impact on individuals. I am also sensitive to diversity in sexual orientation, gender identity, and other lifestyle variables.
