For me, psychotherapy must address the needs of the person. Sometimes this can mean exploring how you got to the point you are at, and how you want to change; and sometimes you may want specific tools to address a very specific issue. Finding the right therapist is perhaps one of the most important choices you will make and also one of the most difficult. Although a therapist may have an armory of techniques to use, what I have found to be at the heart of any type of psychotherapy is whether the relationship works between you and your therapist. I work with children, adolescents, and adults in individual, couples, or family therapy. I have a Masters degree in psychopharmacology and am licensed as a Medical Psychologist in Louisiana. Although I do not prescribe in Massachusetts, I routinely work with primary care physicians and others around medication issues. Over the years, I have been told that I am valued as a therapist because I am direct and involved; I am capable of understanding a breadth of problems and experiences; I am a compassionate listener; I am committed to all of those with whom I work; and I help bring about change.
