Therapists » Clinical Social Work/Therapist
I work with individuals and families that struggle to connect in traditional therapy settings and who may have had challenging or problematic experiences with therapy in the past. I have a, "How can we do it different this time?" approach. I believe it is important to support clients in driving their own treatment through self-determination. I often use cognitive behavioral (CBT), solution focused, reality, person-centered, and experiential approaches to therapy. I look at each person from a "strengths perspective", how an individual relates to the environment around them and how they interact within their family system. My practice focuses on 3 main areas: (1) Troubled, at-risk, substance abusing, delinquent adolescents, including those with oppositional defiance, conduct problems, disruptive behavior, and intermittent explosive disorders, I have also helped middle school youth work through issues with self-injurious behaviors "cutting", separation anxiety, school refusal, and self-esteem. (2) Young adults 18-25 years old who have a "failure to launch," including difficulty moving out on their own, finishing high school or completing a GED, substance abuse; and (3) Adults and families struggling with conflict, parenting, divorce and the family, substance abuse, depression and anxiety.
