Help for kids and teens with OCD! Maybe your child's worries started small. A few extra requests for reassurance, another check-in before bed, or unusual anxiety around an activity that used to be easy. But for kids with OCD, worries don't stay small. Before you know it, these rituals and routines are taking up tons of time in your day. It can feel like the entire family is being held hostage: in order to keep this overwhelming anxiety at bay you have to give in to its ever-growing list of demands. It's exhausting for you AND your kid. Even if you've tried therapy before, you may not have found it very helpful. The usual anxiety coping skills don't always work for OCD. You can't just relax it away! By the time families reach my office, they're often feeling pretty hopeless about things ever getting better. But therapy CAN help OCD. Exposure and Response Prevention is considered the "gold standard" of OCD treatment and can help up to 80% of sufferers feel better. I was 7 when I was diagnosed with OCD. I know firsthand how scary and exhausting it can be! I got trained in pediatric ERP because it's exactly the kind of help I wish had been available when I was young. I love watching kids get unstuck from the never-ending worry cycle of OCD. If you're ready to learn new ways to manage recurring anxiety, reach out here!
