People seek counseling when situations either exceed their resources and/or when they're unsure of how to proceed. This is stressful and counseling is a safe place to talk about challenges and create solutions. It is a time to examine patterns of thinking or behavior connected to the discomfort or depression. The impact of traumatic experiences can not be underestimated, from the view of "It's not what's wrong with you, it's what happened to you.". My goal is to be that professional consultant who provides guidance and hope when people find themselves in times of discomfort. I rely upon my training and experience in behavioral health, addictions, trauma resolution, gestalt psychology and family systems to guide the strategies useful to people in creating solutions that work. The influences of my work as a Recreation Therapist is also crucial to help people find playfulness again. Horizons Counseling & Recovery Services was established in 1998 to provide effective counseling services, employee assistance resources and consultation for workforce and organizational development. This is a solo, cash practice (some EAP contracts) that is low key and focused on meeting the needs of those who request help and resources.
