About

J. R. R. Tolkien once wrote in a letter to a friend, "No man can estimate what is really happening at present. All we do know, and that to a large extent by direct experience, is that evil labours with vast power and perpetual success - in vain: preparing always only the soil for unexpected good to sprout in." Most of us readily identify with the first part of that statement but may not be so sure about the second part. We hope for truth, beauty, and goodness and because of that hope we suffer. How do we live with integrity and freedom in the midst of suffering?

The struggles of life, sometimes brutal and arriving without warning, are a call for us to stop and take a look at our hearts. I have found that the deepest learning comes through suffering and the loss of hope - the very things that we tend to hold in deepest secret. Counseling can provide a "sacred space" to work out the issues of the heart.

It is important to tell at least one person who we truly and fully are so that we may known in our full humanness. Rivendell is a place where you can confront the deepest secrets of who you are. Who knows what good may come from your courage to face who you truly are and to live more fully into who you were meant to be?
