Therapists » Clinical Social Work/Therapist
I have been in private practice assisting children, adolescents and their families since 1984. I am also a tenured Associate Professor, at the University of Maryland School of Social Work and the Co-founder of LeCheval Stable Inc. a therapeutic riding and counseling center in Howard County Maryland providing equine assisted psychotherapy. I have skills in Family Therapy, Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy, and Motivational Interviewing and teach master level courses in each of these methods. I have training in cognitive behavioral therapy from the Beck Institute in Philadelphia, PA. My approach is family centered and empirically supported. I work with children and adolescents experiencing significant anxiety and/or depression with treatment methods based on research and empirical validation. At the same time, I understand that each family has unique needs and that any effective intervention must meet these unique needs of the client and their family One defining feature of my present practice is the use of equine's or horses when working with a select group of clients. This approach is helpful to persons who have difficulty working within the traditional office setting. An equine specialist works with me and the client towards treatment goals
