It takes courage to seek help when you are suffering. Taking steps to improve the quality of your life is one of the most valuable gifts you can give yourself. I believe it is the job of a therapist to help people on their journey and that the therapeutic relationship is an essential part of this process. The therapist must create an environment of trust where it feels safe to explore thoughts and feelings in a non-judgmental, supportive manner. In this kind of atmosphere, we can begin the work to identify strengths and diminish self-defeating thinking and behavior so that you can move forward with your life. My approach incorporates IFS, somatic, psychodynamic, existential and person centered methods. These techniques can be applied to a range of mental health issues such as trauma/PTSD, stress and anxiety, depression, mood disorders, gender identity issues, substance use, intrusive and suicidal thoughts, relationship/marital issues, anger management and more. I believe that it is important to develop strategies that aid in managing symptoms, as well as essential to understand underlying sources of these symptoms. Helping people gain insight and greater emotional understanding of themselves allows them to become "unstuck" and manifest growth and change.
