We all, sooner or later, come up against changes, challenges, or outright catastrophes that require us to grow in order to cope. Many of us find that the coping skills we've picked up in our lives thus far are just not enough to enable us to move forward successfully. Often, responses that used to work may have become the very things that are now causing problems. Fortunately, old strategies that no longer work can be released, and new skills and perspectives can be learned that open up possibilities that were never available in the past. That's what therapy is for, and It is my great pleasure to be a part of this process. We'll begin by taking a thorough history, including your family of origin and early life, relationships, education, employment, hobbies and interests, and religious background. My aim is to get a sense, as quickly as possible, of "how it is to be you"; in the process I will be gaining a perspective on the issues that brought you to me, and how I can help. I am well aware that coming to therapy can be difficult, perhaps because of the challenge of opening up to someone you don't know, or maybe because you're not sure it'll do any good. I can assure you that the great majority of folks who engage in therapy emerge with new understandings, new options, and greater satisfaction with their lives.
