Hello, I'm Cathleen Rodriguez LPC-5955. Counseling is the unique journey of one person’s self-discovery, acceptance, forgiveness and act of letting go in order to obtain the potential they desire (which already resides within them) through the utilization of skills and tools taught to them by the counselor. The counselor is the facilitator of change and health improvement. Counseling involves the whole person, not just one aspect of who they are, have been or will be in the future. One must consider the environment, biology, perception, experience and emotion of an individual to truly comprehend the complexity of that individual. Counseling is a multi-faceted understanding of the human experience. The environment of counseling is first a safe place where the client will feel heard and validated, therefore rapport is the first order of the day. If a client does not feel comfortable and safe, the experience will not be effective, so I focus primarily on making my clients feel this safety within sessions.
